​​Everyone keeps talking about this… “you need to try meditating”.

Ok, so what is meditation?

Well, Wikipedia defines it as a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on an object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state. Hmmm, that sound nice. 

Ok, so what is mindfulness?

We like to describe mindfulness as the ability to be present, to be in the here and now, and be fully engaged with whatever you are doing in the moment.

Mediation has been practiced since antiquity in numerous religious traditions, often as part of the path towards enlightenment and one’s self-realization.
Since the 19th century, Asian meditative techniques have spread to other cultures where they have also found application in non-spiritual contexts as well, such as in business and in health. I bet you didn’t expect to hear that

Find the time - this is about you.

Mediation may be used with the aim of reducing stress, anxiety, depression, and even pain, increasing peace and perception, self-concept and best yet… your well-being. This is about you.

Your mind is a very powerful thing. Your thoughts are powerful things.

Some might say mediation is about training awareness and getting a healthy sense of perspective. You’re learning to observe your thoughts or your feelings without any judgment. Hopefully you might even start to better understand them as well.

How do I meditate?

​So - how do I do it? How do I meditate?

Do it however you like, just relax and take the time, just for you – for yourself. This is about you. You can meditate just about anywhere, just not when you are stuck in traffic, although some deep relaxing breathes should help with that!

There is no such thing as perfect mediation or doing it right or wrong. Sometimes your focus will wander, you might even start thinking about what you are going to cook for dinner tonight. You’ll forget to follow your breathing but that’s OK. It’s all part of the experience. Just relax and enjoy this time for you.

What’s ultimately most important is that you meditate consistently. Notice we said… “meditate consistently”, not “try to meditate consistently”.

The meditation journey is more important than the meditation destination.
